Morse adequately fills a gap on that side of the stage but he could never fill Blackmores shoes but then, I dont think he tries to.

Good reply, Rahul.
Blackmore has pretty much given up electric guitar and rock & roll. Whatever he chooses to do, he does well.
Morse and Purple are a great match...they both want to make rock music, not to mention they get along better than Gillan and Blackie.

I have come to the conclusion that Both are amazing Guitarists. Both have done Great work in Purple..Morse is Current, Blackmore is Past...Lets get past Blackmore and start to appreciate Morse..

Even if Morse tried to be like Blackmore
he would only be second best at it,
because he is not him.
Therefore he can only be himself
which is the very path he has chosen.
You can't compare yourself to someone else
because you will never be them anyway.

They are both totally different......Comparing guitar players is difficult.....I've been a Morse fan almost as long as I have been a Blackmore fan (1984 for Morse, 82 for Ritchie....) so to have two of my favorites in DP has been interesting. I do know what you are saying about the charisma of Blackmore.....That was there in Fulda July 6, as well as the unpredictability.....I agree with your points, but I would not change anything...(Blackmore leaving, Morse replacing). Getting to see Blackmore again in Fulda, Germany, then ending up just a few feet from the stage, and yelling Shadow!!!! at Blackmore, then having him tell me "be quiet" , as well as making eye contact with Candice has to be the highlight of the year for me.

I don't think this comparison was who was a better guitarist or style. It was an honest observation of the excitement and unpredictabilty that Ritchie brought to the band that has been unmatched.
Besides, everyone knows Blackmore could wipe the floor, and his ass with The Smiley One. FACT!!! Whether it's 1972, 74 or 2004.

Hey Brian have you ever seen an actuall guitar duel
with two very good player's.
Ritchie and Steve on stage together doing something like that would be very interesting,cause they have
different styles and different stage presance,
and I think that's what it's down to.
Ritchie one time when they had the Rod's opening for them
did a really funny thing after Dio's cousin smashed
his axe Ritchie did the unpredictable act of,
just as he was ready to smash the strat he stopped,went
to the foot of the stage and dropped it down to a fan in
the front row.Absolutely tasty thing to do.
When I saw Van Hairlen on the 5150 tour
he and Sammy Haghair dueled and I !@#$ you not
Sammy blew him away but Edward's solo spot was a different story alltogether.

These guys that say, that was then, this is now, get over it, make me laugh. I know times change but lets revert to Football (Soccer). When you talk about the best players in the world, who crops up? Pele, Eusabio, Cruyff etc. Ok, today you have great players as well but tou always make the comparrison against the benchmark.Guitarist wise,Hendrix is usually the benchmark. In Purples case Blackmore is the benchmark therefore comparrisons will always be made and in this case, all things considered, Morse is not a patch on Blackmore....get over it.

I do agree about player's like Pele though
