Aging Singers ?
Today, at the current stage of their respective careers, which of the following singers from the Deep Purple family do you consider as the one having kept the best abilities to sing hard rock material?

Re: Aging Singers ?
Funny, I was thinking exactly the same thing today!
I was going to post something along the lines of: JLT is about the only singer (as in not bass player/singer) who still has most of his voice.
Hughes being still in great shape too, but never been a frontman singer only in dP.
Dio is still pretty good too, but I don't quite see what he has to do with the direct dP line-ups (but I see your point with Dio and Bonnet);
As for Rod, for all we know he sings better than he ever did...
I'd go for a HTdP project...the Hughes Turner Deep Purple project

Re: Aging Singers ?
That's one hard question to answer.
IG & DP go together like corned beef & cabbage, but...
Never really liked GH all that much...
JLT is more of a 'MOR'-type singer...
GB - too young to die, too drunk to live...
So it's down to two damn good vocalists, DC & RJD. Hmmm...
Gotta choose Dio. Nobody can *project* like that guy!

It hurts me to say so, but DC just can't anymore...
It should really go for a relaxed, Northwinds type of album.

Re: Aging Singers ?
DC is for me the one whose voice aged the most, he really don't have much left. IG lost quite a bit too, but I like his adapted voice... RJD is very clever, he always adapt the song so that it shows less than other, but still, his voice aged. JLT hadn't much to lose, so he hasn't so much left, but didn't lose so much in a way Bonnet lost really a lot, maybe even more than DC in fact.
GH seems not to have lost anything, or really really few... But, he didn't sing, or nearly, for something like 15 years, and now he really take care of his voice (you won't see him drinkin' and smokin' for hours at the hotel bar after a show like others, some who still sing in DP for instance !)

Re: Aging Singers ?
Having seen all of these guys live in the last few years (apart from JLT), I would place them like this :-
Glenn Hughes
.
.
.
.
Ian Gillan
.
Ronnie James Dio
.
.
.
Graham Bonnet
David Coverdale
Sad to say this, because I am a huge Coverdale fan
However, DC is still the master showman. In fact he tops the list when it comes to stagecraft, with Bonnet at the bottom (reading lyrics off a sheet!).

Re: Aging Singers ?
As much as I like Bonnet in the studio (with Rainbow, M.S.G., and all projects he's been involved in), I've never thought he was that great on stage.
I don't know how he sounds now live, the last thing I've heard is a Bonnet/Airey concert from 2001 and his voice was still good, although often out of tune (as usual).
