Gotta love Steve Martin eh?

Eh! No. There's only one Clouseau as far as I'm concened, and that's Peter Sellars. It's like trying to imagine another guitarist replacing Blackmore in Deep Purple, isn't it? I [sign in to see URL], that's another thread, innit!

I think Martin is very good in more subtle comedy. I didn't particularly like his take on Clouseau - to me, Martin loses his natural 'funniness' when he goes into overdriven, physical comedy. I did enjoy his Panther film, but it's not like first few Sellers films which are really funny every time you see them.

Btw, does anyone else think the very first PP film is the weakest of the classic films? My favourite of them is definitely Return of the PP (1975). It has so many classic scenes and gags in it; the grand piano bit (cue in Mr. Ed), the gymnastics, the old car-in-the-pool (twice in the same pool!), the phone repairman, the absurd karate jump kick through the wall, the hotel room cleaning... I have to watch the film again shortly!

Fanny Hill (BBC)

I'm highly interested in the Victorian period.
