I think you have to accept that retiring is exactly what Ritchie is doing these days. Maybe he'll surprise us all and come out with some fantastic final rock CD but I wouldn't hold my breath. Perhaps he'll invite the guy from Mostly Autum to replace him in BN, not that he's anywhere near being able to! Who knows, but retiring seems the most likely outcome overall.

I would prefer to have Tony Martin as a vocalist in that band. And Blackmore's band should play hard rock, as his most famous bands did.

It's the direction he's been heading in for years besides what's already been mentioned like the songs from RBR. Listen to his solos in Death Valley Driver, and A Gypsy's Kiss they have a very renaisance feel to them.

As someone else said. What is the real reason for asking the question? And what's all this nonsense about him being in retirement. Just saw Norman Wisdon on TV and he's 90! Ritchie is smart enough to know that if he was playing heavy rock at 70 he could look a bit silly, but by developing a new career he can grow old gracefully playing this style of music. As for the commercial aspect of it, do you seriously think it isn't finacially viable, when the last two albums both reached the top 20 of the national German charts? Of course it is. Sure it doesn't earn the same amount as he would with Purple, but then he hardly needs it anymore. He's wealthy enough that he doesn't have to worry!

...nice additon Andy emoticon
Getting back to the first post here,I have to say that it isn't Ritchie who "turned his back on the rock world",it was the media in general that did that in the first place,or maybe even rock itself.
He just used it as a positive by maturing his postion in the music world.
I say grow with him,or forget about what he is doing...that is if you can make up your own mind about him.

Also go back to the first Rainbow album and listen to "The Temple of the King" and "16th Century Greensleves." That was the first clue of where RB would head 23 years later.

My first clue of this would have to be "Satans Holiday",way back before Purple.
Even some evidence can be found in parts of mkI songs.
Soldier Of Fortune had some underlying hints as well, but I here it in just about very song on RB's R,including somehow,BSOTF and IYDLR&R,but it's Dio on those two tracks that sum up this sort of feel,Self Portrait too.
So it wasn't just the instrumentaion on that album,Dio helped make things medieval.
