Strange that he keeps doing it, when everybody think it is out of place. Why does he hot hear it? Another thing; Glover also commented on Morses playing, mostly saying how brilliant he is - BUT adding that there are sides to his playing he does not enjoy, and one thing was the cromatic, fast run stuff he puts in everywhere:-) Can't find the interview now, anyone know it?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Eirik Solum)Fri, 06 Aug 2010 10:18:12 +0000 Re: Morse Can't Play Perfect Strangershttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p442764,from=rss#post442764https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p442764,from=rss#post442764Perfect Strangers is a pop tune, played hard rock style. There is no need to try to copy Blackmore, to do justice to the song. All you need is to understand the musical intention and idea. And to my ears Morse does not understand the tune. The whammybar stuff and the squeeking overtones takes away the authority and majestic from the song. And we are left with something far less interesting. But, as I've said before, Paice have to bring back some energy into his playing of the song too, or the tune will die completely. When I hear it I can't believe this is the same guy who did songs like Loosen My Strings or Clearly Quite Absurd. On the other hand, his rendition of SOTW feels almost like a parody, too. All that 1980s metal stuff going on. You'd almost expect David Lee Roth or (post-Trash) Alice Cooper to start singing after the intro! I'm not so keen on Morse's rendition of PS song either. But, there again, I don't like his guitar playing per se for the reasons you point out - too much wee, wee whah, whah stuff going on. I don't like guitarists that use songs as a basic template to show off their finger-trigger capabilities. I prefer guitarists to complement the song instead. The song comes first. Nevertheless, part of my dislike for his version is because I have got so used to the Blackers version. It's often hard to like a newer rendition if it departs markedly from the older one. As someone said before, it is really all down to personal taste. If Morse had been the first guitarist to play this song - not Blackers - we'd be none the wiser and listeners might conclude that a new 'Blackers' rendition sounded bland by comparison. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Wott)Wed, 28 Jul 2010 17:27:02 +0000 Re: Morse Can't Play Perfect Strangershttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p416252,from=rss#post416252https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p416252,from=rss#post416252quote:Al Erikson wrote: Was it not Johnnie Johnson, Berry's piano player? Rock's killer solo album One Night in the Jungle would have had a wider release if his cousin performed the vocals as originally planned. I was not a big fan of the Rods and I'm very disappointed Rock has taken a backward step and reunited this band instead of Feinstein. I wonder if harsh words were spoken when he split the band after Wacken.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Reborn Again)Sun, 30 Mar 2008 15:55:21 +0000 Re: Morse Can't Play Perfect Strangershttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p416238,from=rss#post416238https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p416238,from=rss#post416238quote:Rezi wrote: Do you know who the Johnny in the Berry song was supposed to be? I love that, precious, full sound and it goes through the whole song. - 3rd - I totally LOVE that Steve Morse minisolos between verses (1:31 - 1:41, 2:33 - 2:43).
