House of Blue light
While Perfect Strangers is multi faceted-----House of Blue Light is a party. It's a good time Rock n Roll record. Maybe this isn't classic Purple but it's good Rock n Roll.
For me the standout cuts are "Bad attitude","Call of the wild" and "Mitsey Dupree"--I allways wondered if Ian was singing about a real life experience.
Every realease from a band doesn't need to be a major sprawling statement---sometimes it's OK to just Rock n Roll.........
This is a good album------

Interesting that you find it a good time record. I think it's lyrics-wise the most bitter DP record. The lyrics are among the very best by DP though.
I recently listened to the album and it sounded better than in ages.
EDIT:
I agree on WDWTWA, it's one of my favourites as well.

Re: House of Blue light
HOBL has got it's moments, but that eighties production and sound? Yuk!
WDWTWA on the other hand, is one of my favourite DP albums.

Re: House of Blue light
"Who Do We Think We Are?" has always been one of my very favorite DP albums for about 35 years now...and I do believe I just may have shared that statement once or twice over the years on various DP discussion venues.
As for "House of Blue Light", it certainly has it's moments, along with one or two DP 'classics' on it - in my non-humble opinion; as a 'card carrying member' of the "DPMkIIGRBEAS" (Deep Purple MkII Greatest Rock Band Ever Apreciation Society) I'd guess that last opinionated observation should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone.

Hey, can I join the club?
I'll raid the freezer for some reindeer meat and bring the booze, too. Then we'll crank up WDWTWA and call the escort girls!

Most certainly, good sir!
The 'dues' are a mere $500.00 per year & your membership card will be mailed to you promptly as soon as payment is received.
We prefer cash or money orders, but personal checks will be accepted & your membership card will be mailed to you promptly as soon as the check clears.

Very perceptive of you, kind sir...it is a kind of 'BYOF' & 'BYOB' type of affair.

Absolutely! The "Anniversary Edition", if you please.

You feel free to do that but as for me - well, let's just say I've grown quite attached to ALL the appendages I was issued upon genesis & would like to leave this mortal plain with them still attached, thank you very much! The wife tells me she keeps a dull kitchen implement readily available for some 'home surgery' - if ya know what I mean - in the event of any interactions with other women...
