Hey Brian
I say it's better than putting out 3 Abandon's(substandard)
and Purpendicular and Bananas.
You know they have been mostly touring.
And what about
LATO
TA
RAH
That makes five official releases and one official bootleg,
that's a fair amount of work without a big break to speak of.
I don't care if you consider live album's to be
side project fodder.
They still took time to put together.
Combined with all the touring it's actually by far the
most active they have been since Mark2a.

That's nice. No..I think that's greaaaaaat! I don't think theres much difference between LATO and TA. Same wibbling woobeda over the same MKII classics. I have all three and apart from a tune or two and those godawful horns in HS, LATO and TA are pretty much the same. As far as the count goes, 5 duff lp's and one DP soundalike ()))'s) in 10 years compared to 5 amazing lp's in 3 years (1970-73). Not much comparison is there?
And of course I know that they have mostly been touring, but what have they been playing? In case you've forgotten, mostly songs from 1970-73.
Oh ....but wait a second..you said since MKIIa. Ok..lets break it down. 1974-1984 (another 10 year period in which they weren't together for 8 of those years). We had the most rightous BURN, the increasingly excellent Stormbringer, the incredible CTTB, Made In Europe and of course the ever so popular Perfect Strangers and who could forget Live In London. . So ...let's do the fancy math..1,2,3,4,5,6 great lp's in a ten year period with 8 of those years inactive as a band.
Still, no comparison. I was going to say that quality beats quantity, but the years I have mentioned have both.

Again
comparison's are a silly way to jump to conclusion's.

If I compared them I would agree with you,but I refuse
to be negative toward a band that has grown in
many positve areas since the bad element has gone.
I'm not talking about guitar playing,I'm talking about
producing honest product.
They can play whatever they please in concert,
neither you nor I nor anyone for that matter can change that.
I think you should just listen to Blackmores Night and
leave Purple alone.
But Blackmores Night must not be enough for you.
There must be something Purple have to offer you or you
wouldn't be here.
This is not a Blackmres Night board. emoticon

The word powered in this thread is kind of an OXY MORON.

Ritchies "Brian" Strat has a point, but comparing Mk. Morse with Mk. Blackmore is really NO contest.

At the early years of Morse with Purple, I thought this would be 'great' since he said in an earlier interviews in 1996-97 that he can easily create ideas, something like he never runs out of ideas.

When I heard "Purpendicular", I said "This new guitarist has lots of good ideas", then "Abandon", I said: "Another album in less than three years, this guy has truly lots of ideas." In May 2000, I read that they already begun writing for the new album (Bananas), then nothing happens, then they do it in February 2001, again nothing happens, by 2002 I knew that they are already "running out of ideas".

In mid-2002, I said to myself: "What happens to Steve's unlimited ideas?".

Good news in the late 2002, they begun writing and recording for "Bananas" with an outside producer, in my mind I thought that they have already written about 30 songs or more since they began writing in May 2000 and to my surprise and frustration they only manage to write 11 songs and 2 instrumental tracks. emoticon

Mk. Morse should concentrate more on writing good songs rather than touring and touring.

They should start writing songs for the next album, so that by 2010, they already have 12 songs. emoticon emoticon

The "guitar" is the main power of Purple, next is the vocals.

Joe Satriani knows that. emoticon

But the fact is, Steve may not be in control of this factor. It appears, at least to me, that Ian G. is the driving force in the band now, and he is making the calls. And in this case, I do believe the story they have given that Jon's deciding to leave or not, and the need for a replacement did have an impact on the time between albums.

That said, I am personally very happy with Steve in the band. It may be that no one will truely ever replace Blackmore in the band, but I like most everything they have done with Steve, and am happy with being able to see them live, which I never had the opportunity to do before.
