The second half of the show was better than the first half but awesome? no not IMHO TMIBs solo in ST was painful at best and the guitar work during the SK duels was horrendous(ive always thought that Blackers in the 80s sounded like some tribute artist failing miserably to recreate the true RB) quite sad really when you think what he had been and still could be as he proved in the 90s.You are correct about Gillan having worse days though the Paris 85 video is testament to that what a shame that Paris is the only proper video from that tour

From DTC on it's Purple at their best. The majestic performance of Perfect Strangers also deserves a mention.

Btw, were there anyt plans to release the remastered version of concert? The 1991 vsn sounds awful. I'm sure we'd have more respect for it had it sounded better. Still, not a great performance.

I'm not sure whether it's possible to get a better sound out of the tapes the BBC provided for the 1991 release.

If someone has the bootleg LP (the one from FM, not from audience) or bootleg CD of that show, perhaps he could compare it sound wise to the official release? Perhaps the bootleg source has better sound ...

You can compare it for yourself. Lazy was taken from the bootleg.

I asked it because on my bootleg, you can hear some comments from the radio speaker. And it features the whole show...

No not really not IMHO Monkey Talks MIJ,Scandinavian nights and In Concert are examples of DP at their incomparable live best as they were from 69-73(there was and never will be a finer rock band IMHO)they also came very close to this level (IGs voice apart) during TBRO tour but although they played some fine shows in the 80s they never at any time aproached their best.BTW I agree that PS was done very well great version on Knebworth show

Improvisation and energy, that's what I meant by Purple at their best. You had plenty of both at Knebworth. I like the way they reworked Space Trucking. It was 1980's and they must have realized they wouldn't get away with the 10 minutes of tedium that usually followed the organ solo. The new ideas worked quite well.

Yes they are to be applauded for reworking things like ST but that said there is absolutely no way TMIB can be applauded for the total garbage he played during the track JL played the song very well but Blackers and it hurts me to say this was sh#t as he was during many of the solo instrumental parts of the show

Why, was he missing notes or something? I suspect he was playing exactly what he wanted to play in which case you can't say he was !@#$. You don't have to like his sound or what he was playing, but claiming he was !@#$ at what he was doing is prejudicial.

Re: Knebworth 85

The nasty guitar tone can be mainly blamed on the overuse of an octavia pedal. It sounds good on Difficult to Cure but to have it on to that extent was a bit of a bad choice.
The use of the Taurus bass pedals is a bit much too; what's the point in using them when there's a perfectly good bassist to work with ..
