Stormbringer remastered?

I see this on Amazon.

Stormbringer (Original Recording Remastered) [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

Did I miss that this was released? Not my favorite album, by any means, but I would buy it for completeness sake.

Anyone have any info on this?

Perhaps it's one of these, Rick:

US (1990) Metal Blade Records 9-26456-2 [1CD; remastered]

Japan (1996) Warner Bros. WPCR-873 [1CD; remastered]

(info from the Discography section of The Highway Star for the album, "Stormbringer" )

Actually Ed, I found this on the DPAS.

Friday Records have issued basic CD editions of Stormbringer, Made In Europe and Come Taste The Band in America, with no bonus tracks whatsoever. A few people including Kenny Mathers have asked about them. They are official. Warners in America apparently doesn't feel these titles are strong enough to remain in their regular catalogue, and has an agreement with Friday to handle titles they in effect can't be bothered about. You can imagine what some people feel about this!

Re: Stormbringer remastered?

Despite the reservations expressed by the DPAS I bought the "Come Taste" remaster from Amazon, and despite there being no bonus tracks or additional sleeve notes, it definitely sounds better than the original "Come Taste" CD. I played the 2 back to back and the new "remastered" version sounds much brighter and clearer. Still, I have my doubts as to whether this is remastered from the original masters as the last I heard from the DPAS, they still hadn't located the original masters for this album.

So, no doubt if the original masters do turn up, we will get a definitive version. In the meantime, I can confirm that this one does sound better than the original. I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of anyone who bought either Stormbringer or Made In Europe- whether they thought there was any significant improvement over the original CD's?

This reply comes a bit late, but yes Old Timer, my Japanese 'vinyl replica' remastered CD sounds a lot better than the original CD. Much more power, and individual instruments are clearer.

Unfortunately the plans to release Saarbrucken and Graz shows are scrapped, and while Live in Paris is brilliant, I do recommend getting the Japanese remaster for the definite live versions of Stormbringer, Burn and You Fool No One!

As for Stormbringer, I bought the Japanese one in the late 1990s. Excellent sound. However, the European remaster should come out sometime in the next couple of years. Apparently Coverdale singlehandedly stopped the release from becoming a 2CD package with unreleased versions and remixes of the whole album. Thanks a lot, Davey...

I contacted the DPAS about this recently, and they confirmed that plans for releasing these two shows have NOT been scrapped.... just on the back boiler. emoticon

Just out of curiosity, Herky10, would you have happened to have been given any further details - for instance(s), is the DPAS plan to issue a sort of 'more complete' version of "MkIII - The Final Concerts", in other words, all 3 of the final MkIII '75 shows in their totality & original running orders, unedited & in one complete set?

That's funny, because I asked Simon about this some months ago and he said he can't see the shows released.

But if they're on put on hold, it means they'll come out in 2015 at the earliest! emoticon

After reading here a few months ago, about how plans for this release were "scrapped", I was naturally concerned! emoticon

I e-mailed the DPAS, and they replied with a couple of lines saying it was still planned for the future.

That's all I'm afraid!

I have all three "friday music" releases, S, MIE and CTTB and can confirm that the sound is much improved on all.
I got really tired of waiting for the "official releases"... emoticon
