Re: Purpendicular - a good album

I would have much rather replied to the moderators removed post, over the fact that it was evidence of his activity with me in the last two hours, and he is now covering is dirty tracks with me.

As for liking and disliking, it's always best to leave it at that, instead of trying to put it so many ways, when it's still the same old thing, you don't like him.
Can you ever get passed that and move on to bigger and better things, is the real question.

I would find it hard myself to like very many guitarists more than JS, but I don't compare great guitar players to one another, as I enjoy music for what it is, not who is playing it necissarily. Why limit yourself to such a thing?

How can you get the idea I limit myself to Joe Satriani? He was fitting Purples style the best. It's an subjective impression and it's mine.

When you read the thread before you should know that I love Purpendicular. When I'm not totally wrong Steve Morse is playing there! I'm even a Abandon liker but then...

When people will finally learn that taste differs? That there are dislikes and likes what nothing has to do with limiting oneself.

Let the subject be Purpendicular and not Blackmore or Satriani ./. Morse.

The point is clear, what are you missing?
I didn't mention any names.

Taste is also limited when you base it on who, and not what.

I would rate Purpendicular above all the Morse albums, with Bananas coming next, then Rapture, then Abanoff.
Bananas was a decent effort by all involved, but Rapture has begun to spoil.

Thats my opinion, having nothing to do with who is on the records.
So Blackmore is better that Steve Morse in your opinion, and the same goes for JS.
So what, are you hoping somebody new is reading that, or do you just like to repeat yourself?

We agree completely but we have a different taste.

Listen, learn read on. emoticon

PS:
You mentioned JS after I did. So it's clear that I was meant.

This album should have been titled Soon Forgotten which accurately describes the entire Morse era. It has never worked.

...for you, it has never worked for you.

The preponderance of the evidence suggests that for many others here that this album worked just fine. That's the beauty of music and art in general, no? One man's trash is another man's treasure?

Of course, I could be utterly wrong. It's been known to happen occasionally.

I hate to admit it but when you’re right, you’re right. I certainly don’t dispute that Purpendicular, Abandon, Bananas and Rapture of the Deep were recorded exclusively for trash connoisseurs.

I'm very close to being in total agreement here. I feel it's their best since Perfect Strangers.
In fact, if someone was to posit that DP's best albums were In Rock. Live in Paris, Perfect Strangers, and Purpendicular I probably wouldn't raise a fuss over it.

Gillan sounds revitalised on Purpendicular (in a BIG way), proving his Legend-status beyond any doubt. And Morse can't be criticised too much can he? He's obviously a fine player, more than up to the task (as DAUNTING as that task most likely appeared at the time).

Back in '96, i was writing reviews as well as taking photographs for a Welsh arts magazine. I remember receiving promo copies of 'Purpendicular' & 'Stranger in us all" both on the same day, from the same PR company, the Rainbow album i listened to once, i dig it out occasionally when i read people saying good things about it, perhaps i missed something (i don't think i did), 'Purpendicular' i loved instantly and i've played it often over the past 10 years, still don't like 'ted' or 'soon forgotten' though.
Anyway, back to Steve Morse, he topped all the US Guitar Mag polls throughout the late 80's early 90's, and this was in the age of Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani and all the Mike Varney widdlers. I doubt very much if he found the Purple gig duanting at all, Blackmore was a great innovator in his day and an inspiration for next wave of technical wizards, but guitar had evolved and he was part of a different era,
One further point, i got a media photo-pass for the Cardiff and Bristol shows on the 96 tour, the usual crack with this is that you can only photograph the 1st 2 or 3 songs from the pit (great if its a Yes show), however on this occasion i was told that i could photograph throughout the show, but not the pit! That meant from the back with a 200mm lens (in low light).
