What the hell does 'sonically' actually mean? Frankly I prefere the far superior sound quality of CDs, but even if the sound quality were identical it's the conveiniance of CDs over Vinyl or casette that I was referring to.

I'm really not a fan of Vinyl, I know there's a different quality to the sound and one that some people may enjoy more, but the overall sound is significantly lower quality and I'm not really used to hearing music of less than CD quality, so I don't care for it.

There's no meassurable superiority to vinyl, only a difference which may appeal to personal taste.

Being a luddite, I was really anti-CD when they came out then my loved one got me 'Blood On The Tracks' on CD and I never looked back.

Nothing's perfect in the audio world but dig the music.

I never supported the commerce of buying anything twice.

Did it ever happen to you that the music on a bought CD disappeared completely? I'd two such exemplars at home (before I threw them away).

So I really prefer the vinyl with their scratches. Somehow it sounds with more feeling to me. What happy I am that we finally have a record player again.

Rubbish, it is much harder to centralise a

coffee cup on an album , and still be able

to return it there between gulps emoticon

Re: Sonic Quality of Original DP Vinyl's

A handful of comments.

I can't remember the quality of all the old DP LP's, but I do remember that Machine Head had horrible sound. Absolutely flat, no life. That was only fixed with the anniversary remaster cds. Another horrid LP was Stormbringer. Not only did I hate the sound on it, I had to keep returning the LP because the copies I kept skipping, brand new out of the store. And I had a decent turntable back then, it's not that I had crappy equipment.

I grew up in the era of vinyl, I have some fond memories, but overall don't miss it. I don't miss dust, fingerprints, scratches, skipping, and any of that.

What I do miss is album covers, with real art you could see, lyric sheets inside the album that were big enough to read, generally that aspect of albums was great, and missed.

As for cds, the original pressings, especially of albums originally released on LP, were terrible. But I have to say, the newer remasters of older albums are often really good. And many new albums release on cd sound good. I have the remaster of the Chicago II album, and it may be the best sounding album I have ever owned, on any medium. Crystal clear, and the instruments just jump right out at you, it's incredible sounding. It just took about 20 years of cds for them to finally figure out how to do them right.

The second hand copy of the album I had as a kid had one place where it always skipped. Even now when I hear the original version of Soldier of Fortune I expect a skip at the start of the verse after the guitar solo!
