Bananas and Perpendicular compare similarly...
to Machine Head and In Rock.
In Rock and Perpendicular are experimental albums, Machine Head and Bananas are both more straight down the line.
Its likley Those who like In Rock better will like Perpendicular better and vice versa.
Any way I like MH and Bananas, u may think different, after all, i'm just some teenage dumbass.

Re: Bananas and Perpendicular compare similarly...
I've never seen In Rock as an experimental album-although it might have been since Blackers told Lord:let's try some Heavy rock, if it doesn't work we'll go back to concertos...(cf: Machine Head documentary).
I also see a huge difference in MH and ))).MH is indeed a "straighter" album where ))) is a very diversified (in tempos, moods,...)album.Maybe if you add When A Blindman Cries to MH, then it may have more similarities with )))...
Some might also say that Fireball and Abandon are very much alike, as some consider Fireball a weaker album and lots of people(on this forum anyway), consider Abandon as one of the worst dP albums.
For me all those albums, from In rock to ))) , all have their own identity. They're all very different and that's what's so great about dP!
But afterall I'm just a 33 year old dumbass!
And a drummer...so I'd add: Dumb and drummer...

Re: Bananas and Perpendicular compare similarly...
I´m more of an In Rock type. Maybe because I´m from europe.

Interesting. I like MH better than IR and ))))'s better than _I_.

Re: Bananas and Perpendicular compare similarly...
IMHO, Bananas is the only album that comes close to their works in the 70's era.

Re: Bananas and Perpendicular compare similarly...
After a few weeks of listening to Bananas, I have to say that I prefer Purpendicular - it was so fresh and so new, it stands the test of time for me. But )))s just lacks that vital spark somehow. It's still way ahead of most of what's out there right now, but it's a bit short of the best recent work.

Same here. Good album but definitely not as good as Purpendicular.

Re: Bananas and Perpendicular compare similarly...
Time for a vote/ranking from the minority here...
1) "Abandon"
2) "Bananas"
3) "Purpendicular" (one of the most overrated albums in Purple's catalogue...either just ahead of "Come Taste The Band" or just behind it)

Come Taste The Band. An album I love to overrate!
