Just the voice decides it all... And maybe a bit of training.

Glens abilitys and qualitiys as a singer are no doubt, but there's more about, when it comes to prefer a singer, than just his voice abilitys.
Regarding "power":In the 80's DC blew any other rock singer out of the water.Have you seen it then?
I don't think so.

I've seen plenty of 80s Whitesnake on TV, not a patch on Hughes' 90s output in terms of sheer power IMHO.

Then: Coverdale were definetly a better singer, alltough Glenn played the bass better emoticon

Now: Haven't heard any off their new work. The lates recording I have with Coverdale is Live....in the heart of the city, and with Hughes it's CTTB.

I really like the power and dept of Coverdale's voice better then Hughes screams.

I bought it, so I bluddy well boot it!

Plenty of - 84 live performances??What a brilliant channel,tell me the frequence.
When I say live,I mean standing infront of the stage.
Like a report back in those days said:No one thunders his vocals through the mic with more physically power than DC.
That my HO too.

You never said anything about live versions....

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because I haven't heard anything before Whitesnake '87 other than the original version of Here I Go Again but I find it hard to believe that anyone short of an opera singer could match 90s Hughes for power.

I have HTP I and all the DP stuff with Glenn,Phenomena I,Gary Moore with Glenn.
And again, being the better singer,to me,is more than just the range of notes that someone can reach.
Coverdales power in live concerts was earth shaking in the E A R L Y 80's.

Ritchieshair,
I suggest you get your hand's on some earlier whitesnake material, you'll be glad you did.

As for Lesliescream's HO,It's a pretty hard statement to follow,Nobody thundering like DC.
MAN YOU YOU CALL FOR DEBATE ON THAT ONE.

You must be short on Gillan recording's too then, but that
doesen't matter when all you have to do is listen no further than Made In Japan.
Where is the evidence even in your personal witnessing of DC,to prove he's has anywhere near the sheer power of Gillan or Hughes?Since power seem's to be the main preference here, for anyone here to think either DC or GH
can top Gillan in this department is sad.
Don't get me wrong Hughes can scream but he lack's the conrol it takes to pull it of tastefully IMHO.
He may be in his prime now but even now he can't match the glory of Gillan in his prime.Too many drug's will do that to anyone.

This is an interesting thread to say the least. emoticon

Larry,I have more than MIJ,be sure of that. And I do know that no one ever touches the high screams of IG when he was at his peak.
How do you define power?
