Help needed (concerning the Statesboro Blues)

Hey folks,

I have an extremely serious problem ( emoticon ).

I really like to make some compilations of songs for myself. Right now I'm working at a compilation of Blues Rock songs - it's gonna be two discs: one with live songs, the other one with songs recorded in the studio.

But now the problem: I really wanna add the MK IV's rendition of the Statesboro Blues from the Days May Come jamsession CD. But I don't know whether to put it on the live or on the studio CD. Yeah, that's tough I know.

I tend to put it on the live CD although there is no audience, but it's obviously just a jam with some minor faults (like this tiny break before the guitar solo starts).

But since your opinion is very important for me, I would be glad so know your opinions.

Cheers everybody and sorry for the time I stole you if you read this post emoticon !

I'd put it on the studio cd, just because it's a jam performed in a studio and as you said without an audience.
Does that help?

I agree with PurpleTemple as that's the way I've done it since I first included MkIV's version of "Statesboro Blues" on a compilation - go with 'studio'.
Since this recording became available over the last few years, I've often opined that it would've - with a bit of 'polish & finishing' - fit very nicely on "Come Taste The Band".

I won't put Staesboro Blues on the compilation. I'd put :

Deep Purple - Mistreated (live)
Blackfoot - Highway Song (live)
Whitesnake - Ain't no Love in the Heart of the City (live)
Uriah Heep - Simon the Bullet Freak
Wishbone Ash - Jail Bait
Rory Gallager - Walkin' Blues
Phish - Tweezer
Gary Moore - Sunset
Glenn Hughes - Nights of White Satin

Now, if you really want to put "Statesboro Blues", put it on the studio compilation, for all the good reasons explained by the fine connoisseurs who preceded me.

Ok, I'm convinced, I put it on the studio CD. Which is a good solution, because I want no singer to appear twice on a CD. And on the live CD I have already DC singing Ain't no Love ... .

So thank you emoticon

Sorry Ulf! I didn't notice the first post was yours! Of course, you won't need all my recommandations! emoticon emoticon

I understand you're making a "CONNOISSEUR" compilation!!

No reason to apologize! The problem is, that I don't have most of the stuff you mentioned (except DP, WS and Rory).

This Blackfoot Live album is on my list for years now!

Cheers

I would use The Allman Brothers band's version of the song since their version is the best ever....

It's neither a "studio" nor a "live" recording as we understand those things, so you need to do a third CD. ;-)

Seriously: You obviously have made a choice, and if you think that it's a good choice, it's a good choice. After all, you do these CDs for yourself.

I suppose the best description is 'live in the studio'... That's not very helpful is it?
