Who do we think we are?

What are peoples opinions on it?

I am a big fan of the Mk2 stuff I have so far (In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, Made in Japan), is it a good place to go next?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

There is no way you can escape "Who do we think we are". This is a must, completing the MkII trilogy.

My personal opinion is that "Who do we think we are" is at the same level as "Fireball". Songs like "Woman from Tokyo", "Smooth Dancer", "Rat Bat Blue", "Super Trouper" or "Our Lady" provide wonderful moments of rock'n'roll.

The MkII(a) career was too short anyway to allow one missing item.

WDWTWA belongs in your collection before any post WDWTWA recordings, it went downhill from there. Some will say MH is better, I for one do not agree in that.I don't rate the albums, but it's up there with IR/Fireball.

I regard "WDWTWA?" as an essential Deep Purple recording to have, Macondo. I'd suggest getting the 'Remastered Edition', with the Roger Glover remixes & outtakes on it; of course I reccomend that one acquire all the 'Remastered/Anniversary Edition' MkII rcordings ("In Rock'; "Fireball"; "Machine Head" & "Who Do We Think We Are?" )

"Who Do We Think We Are?" is essential.

It always bothers me that most "reference books" rave about In Rock, Fireball, Machine Head; but then ignore or even worse, pan WDWTWA. It's flat out wrong. It's still my favorite MkII album.

If you care about sound quality, then get the gold disc version. If want the outtakes, then get the 'Remastered Edition' which is pretty good sounding, but not as good as the gold disc.

This isn't an essential album.
Woman From Tokyo is an OK track and there are a couple of half decent ones as well. But the ideas weren't there and the performances aren't spectacular either. It's an album that proves that mkII was finished, at least in the studio.
It's a generic 70s soft rock album at best.

Re: Who do we think we are?

My least favourite of DP MKII albums. Blackers is far too laid back for me - back to his best when Burn blew out the speakers after Gillan and Glover went.

I know some on here think that a more restrained Blackmore is a good thing. Personally, I think it's pointless! Much of his playing sounds like it was 'mailed in', to me - much less of a band feel, more forced. Just listen to that wimpy little guitar solo on Woman From Tokyo and you just know you're NOT in for a [sign in to see URL] doubt there is a single song on the album that would have made it on to Machine Head.

I find myself playing Stormbringer more than WDWTWA!

Just my opinion...

Now that's plain silly.
I think of "generic 70's soft rock" albums and bands like Bad Company and
the Eagles come to mind, not Deep Purple [mk2].

It is a treat, I get chills; very George Harrison.

I'm just sorry you two can't enjoy the album as I do. emoticon
