Re: Best Purple Bass Line
You Keep On Moving or You Fool No One;both great, driving bass lines, although YKOM is more ominous and foreboding.Great album-closer as well.CHEERS

Re: Best Purple Bass Line
The You Keep On Moving bassline is quite simple, but very effective! Defintely one of the best for me, too!

You Keep On Moving
Drifter
Burn
The MIE versions of YFNO, Mistreated and Stormbringer
No boring Glover bass lines... Simper was better, Hughes rules , say what you will about his vocals...

Re: Best Purple Bass Line
I am surprised that no one here has thought to mention the bassline intro to "First Day Jam"-- the 14th and bonus track of the WDWTWA remaster.
Yes it was kind of a farsical moment speared on by (a probably bored out of his mind) Ritchie Blackmore, while waiting for the geographically challenged Roger Glover to retrace his steps from that (now infamous) "missed highway offramp", and find his way to the rehearsal studio....but I thought it was a good strong bass that set up a nice uptempo jam number.
I think it wound up being one of the best simply because it was so melodical in nature.

Re: Best Purple Bass Line
I like 'Loosen My Strings'. It sounds good and is really out front, compared with some of the other DP tunes with nice bass lines.

Re: Best Purple Bass Line
roger: roses cantina (the only thing that I like about this song)
hughes: ykom - fantastic as the whole song!
simper: I got to think better. no one spot in my mind immediately. but i'm sure he had done great bass lines too.

Re: Best Purple Bass Line
When the Perfect Strangers tour came to San Diego in, I think it was '84 or'85, Roger did a newspaper interveiw where he said about his bass work "I don't know how to play that thing" and I thought Huh?????

Re: Best Purple Bass Line
Having listened to the 1969 Concerto last night, his Bass line during Ritchie's great solo in the first movement is pretty dang good!!
