Re: New album and tour
Imho opinion both Albums can't be compared. Very different kind of Music. But both are very, very good albums. Regarding the higher energy of the tours in 2001 2004 2005: If I remember correctly, that was the time, when the band only did the greatest hits kind of tours. In 2018 the band - at least in Europe - played a lot of the newer songs. Maybe it's the old discussion of playing greatest hits oder newer material? Maybe those, who attend the concerts, will only listen to the old songs?

Let's just say that Alice Cooper is the better performer on stage as some are saying.
What about studio battle?! Both bands released studio album in 2017.
Which is better?!
Deep Purple's "Infinite" or Alice Cooper's "Paranormal"?!
INFINITE "vs" PARANORMAL
Take your pick....
Both very good albums, but both suffer from the same problem: the tracks are too short!
And that, I think is all down to Ezrin, especially in Purple's case.

Re: New album and tour
In my view, tracks were shorter because the ideas were very good but not abundant, and they didn't have an RB there that they could hand over a 16-bar progression and go to the pub whilst he soloed over it.
I think it was a wise decision, to avoid diluting the quality (except for the last track, which remains a mystery for me), but of course it does sound a bit strange for DP.

I don't think so. Airey and Morse are more than capable of soloing for 16-bar plus each.
I think the producer's choice was to make shorter tracks, even if it meant putting a long boring speech in the middle of a song and fade-out the solo following that speech in its prime...
As for Roadhouse Blues, it was a bad idea wrongly exploited. I think it could have been nice(r) with more experimental sounds, but the way it is, it's just an end of the evening boring bar cover.
Roadhouse should have been the bonus track and the album should have included "Paradise Bar" (a fine track imho) and some extra soloing.
I blame Ezrin for that, but maybe I'm wrong.

Re: New album and tour
I agree that "Paradise Bar" should have been included in INFINITE and "Roadhouse Blues" as outtake, there should be two outtakes.
If Ezrin is busy or not available.... Bob Rock, Kevin Shirley, Rick Rubin, etc.

Of course they are able to solo, but in particular Morse, in my view, has a limited hard rock vocabulary (not so if he were to play a different style, but he does so in other bands), so 16 bars tomorrow will sound similar to the 16 of today, that can be linked to the 16 of yesterday, etc. I can understand that at some point one goes for a shorter song.

Ugh... we all disliked what Bradford did with Bananas and Rapture and you are suggesting "king of loudness war distortion" Rick Rubin with his "since I´m nearly deaf, I must make it loud till I hear it!" attitude???? He killed every album he made!
BTW - when I heard how he worked with Sabbath… I dont get why he is so "famous" producer.

Who do you mean by "we all"?
I like production on "Bananas" very much, powerful and crystal clear - unlike the sound on ROTD, which perhaps resulted from the fact that instead of proper studio, the band were recording in Bradford's home cellar...

Re:
I don't like Bananas at all, nor ROTD, but nothing to do with the production just the plodding, boring songs.

Rick Rubin did some fabulous productions in the 80's and 90's (The Cult, Slayer, Beastie Boys, RHCP, Johnny Cash ...). His production was STELLAR and gave some artists an artistic line to their work, sometimes re-defined their work.
Now, what he's done in his later is not so great (Sabbath, Metallica,...) and I don't think he would be right for dP.
But that's why is such a famous producer!
I would also hate to see Kevin Shirley produce a dP album. What he's done with Bonamassa and BCC and Maiden just sounds like it's been mixed under water, there's barely any treble and it's all muffled. To me, he's ruined a few great albums.
Bradford...No thank you! Bananas was good, but RotD sounds like a demo, no meat to it.
I'd like to see the guy (can't remember his name) who produced Europe (on their latest album), Rival Sons work with dP.
