Was the Queen tribute band strong vocally? That was one of the band's major strengths.

Re: Blackmore's Blood

I visited their homepage and there are a number of videos, which you can peruse... with professional sound quality. They are a Czech band.

This one above is from a TV show. They have played Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Czech R. and Germany. Reading their biography they seem to be pretty big... I've pasted a link below:

Re: Blackmore's Blood

Getting back to the original discussion I feel I have to fight my corner still regarding Blackmore's Blood and be a bit more specific. I am re-reading earlier comments and have to say that the note for note playing is mainly in the signature solos, which is surely what people want to hear, as I've stated previously. Blind Man they played pretty much note for note, I suppose they think that's what the audience want to hear and I couldn't agree more. Aside from that they do ad lib when the song requires it and their outro solos were definitely improvised.
I note the comment regarding the tribute band The Blackmore Legacy, that they try to play the difficult bits and I wonder if that was a generalised dig at tribute bands as a whole or a direct hit at Blackmore's Blood suggesting that they've missed bits out. I never noticed anything missed out and I'm well versed with every Ritchie solo ever recorded. I'd love to hear back what bits they were, if someone could fill me in ....

Re: Blackmore's Blood

Hi Sprouty. Welcome to the forum.

I know some tribute bands have superb musicians who "reign it in" so that they play solos note for note. One example is "One Night Of Queen" which features David Brockett on guitar as Brian May. I've seen David play in other bands and he is an absolutely phenomenal player (one of the best I've ever seen) but when in "Brian" mode he resists the temptation to be flash and plays it more or less note for note because that's what Brian generally does.

However I think there has to be room for improvisation in any Blackmore tribute band, be it a tribute to Rainbow, DP or even Blackmore's Night (are there any BN tributes?) simply because Blackmore fans will know very well that Ritchie always improvised when playing solos live. Even the "structured" solos like Highway Star and Burn had some degree of improvisation when played live. That's what we all love about Ritchie, isn't it?

Pretty good. The "Roger" in the 1st clip (Chart Show) is badly needing a blonde wig though! emoticon

Re: Blackmore's Blood

Thank you for the welcome Big J!

In fairness, I've said it before, I'm not a tribute band fan, but these Queen guys are pretty tight - I enjoyed watching the vids there - thanks for sharing 😊
As you say Big J, any 'Brian' has to keep it quite tight, as the real one does, but I will drag this conversation back to the band in question, Blackmore's Blood, who were pretty much slated on the opening page for not playing in the Blackmore style and are unable to improvise.
I was talking to the guitarist in Blackmore's Blood at their last gig and he was telling me how he learnt to play - not a guitar lesson in sight, he is self taught. Guitar teachers approach him at gigs and want to learn from him, as he learnt from improvisation and spent many years playing in improvisation bands. He told me how he'll readily throw something different into the mix, a bit of The Shadows maybe and even Lady GaGa I think I remember him saying, how much more improvised do you want!!
These tribute bands, or should I say this tribute band, because I really haven't time for any other, need praising for the dedication they put in to get it right. It pains me to hear of these excellent musicians being wrongly slated!
By the way, I watched the Mistreated vid mentioned at the beginning - how can you knock that .... Is that not improvisation?
You just can't please some people.....

Regarding the guys playing note for note, what's wrong with that?

And if the guitarist plays pretty much note for note, I'm happy with that, I want to be able to shut my eyes and hear TMIB in the room... and that's just what I got when I went to Blackmore's Blood..

But it is what it is -a tribute. Nothing original.

NiJi: 100 % agree that is An exactly accurate summation of a "Tribute Band" - nothing original at all.

Me thinks Sprouty is probably one of the members of "Blackmore's Blood" or a close "pal" he's a bit to "fluffy" on the whole thing and seems very keen to push the "its TMIB in the room" so maybe this is actually the guitarist from Blackmore's blood!! Either way it matters not.

One thing is for certain.... try as these tributes might and they do, to one excruciating degree or another, attempt to play the material note for note it just never ever sounds quite right....... close perhaps, but like "having TMIB in the room" ....... pure fantasy.

Sprouty, maybe next time you go to see your Tribute heroes Blackmore's Blood, maybe drink less and see what they really sound like.....
theres a well known saying bands use "the more you drink.... the better we'll sound" Top tip that one.

Im sure Blackmore's Blood and Rainbow Rising are jolly fine bands etc etc but Rainbow they very certainly are not, not even close.

Incidentally, if you reckon the BB guitarist should get top marks for observation and diligence for somewhat stupidly placing a guitar exactly where the heat from the amp valves will damage it..... the mind boggles!!

Re: Blackmore's Blood

BSB discussing tribute bands is obviously a very sensitive subject for you and it's a shame you cannot have a conversation without being rude and personal, to both myself and the band in question.
I stand by my comment that in listening to the Blackmore's Blood guitarist, I could close my eyes and hear TMIB in the room. I saw TMIB many times, in Purple and Rainbow, so kinda know what I'm on about. I'm a member on a very friendly rock music site and when I have since posted videos of this band, comments from other serious RB fans also say the same thing. These people are also now going to see Blackmore's Blood and they say the same thing on seeing them in person. Have you seen them in person, or are you still ignorantly going by a bit of mobile phone footage? I heard through the grapevine that you used to play in a tribute band yourself, which I find bizarre after all the negativity you seem to have about them. I would love to see some footage of yourself playing, to make a comparison, but I can find nothing of you anywhere.
For the record, the 'he' that you refer to me as, is a 'she'. Perhaps that explains my 'fluffyness'..?
It also wipes out your suggestion that I might be a member of the band.
Thanks for the tip, but I don't drink 😉. Here's one for you.... As a child my parents used to say, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. If you find these tribute bands as "tiresome" and "embarrassing" as you say, then why watch the clips? Don't watch them, then we won't have to hear all your "tiresome" negativity. Top tip that one 😊.
