Did you have a chance to check out some of the people who weren't on your initial list?

I haven't checked the Gear Page you mention yet. Of the names in your post, I'm not familiar with Avatarium, Zool, Kruk, Saffire, Show Ya, Walter Giardino's Temple. I'll check them out!

Any thoughts fdr?

Avatarium, good stuff, closer to Sabbath, I'd say.
Zool, couldn't find them on YT
Kruk, interesting
Saffir, couldn't find them on YT
Show Ya, metal with female voices, not my thing
Walter Giardino, enjoyable Rainbow/Yngwie stuff.

I'll add a new name: Horisont. They have numerous evident influences, not only Purple, but also Heep, Maiden, Lizzy, Magnum. I'm currently completing their discography. At the moment I have their last three albums. Have a listen:

Thanks fdr. I'm familiar with Horisont...I like them and maybe I should add them there too but I don't recall a specific song which sounds all that much like Purple or Rainbow specifically.

I had hoped you would check out the youtube links I posted at the Gear Page (I have links to Saffire and all the others there so you can hear them) and you should have no problem seeing why I mentioned those bands.

The early Avatarium stuff sounds more like Sabbath but they sound much more like Rainbow, Heap and Purple later on. Check out Into the Fire for example (linked in that post I mentioned).

There are also many other bands with clips there. I posted at least 30 or so.

Here's an example of what I meant by Avatarium:

Re: Purple inspired bands

Im not sure that you can say that Uriah Heep were hugely inspired by Deep Purple ?
They absolutely sound similar to DP in that there is the huge Hammond sound throughout their entire back catalogue, but since they started out around the same time and developed their sound around the same time as DP were developing their sound, then its probably more true to say that DP and Uriah Heep had their own similar influences and perhaps inspired each other?
Heep were and actually still are a great band but were a bit more prog than DP back in the day.
The one thing i thought Heep have missed out on is a truly great guitarist ,Mick Box is talented no doubt but was never up there with Blackmore,Page, iommi etc
One thing Heep have done well over the years which shows up certain DP members is that they allow former members to share the stage with them from time to time eg Hensley,Kerslake and Lawton

True, they started at the same time, but by their own admission they often kept an eye on what DP were doing, with Salisbury for instance inspired by the Concerto experiment. They quickly developed their musical identity, anyway. They had different strengths: the vocal harmonies, totally absent in Purple, or the fantasy element. And regarding Box, I'd say that while he's probably not a virtuoso of Ritchie's caliber, he's a very efficient team player, and an underrated soloist. Since the 90's, DP. could have learned a thing or two from them, for example regarding live setlists, covering almost every period of their discography. Actually, I'd go as far as saying that in the past 20 years Heep are probably a more consistent band than Purple, in the studio but particularly on stage.

Cant argue with any of that fdr but i will say i would think that most of the major bands of the time kept an eye of what their peers were up to?Anyway great and somewhat underrated band, dont know if you've heard it yet but the new album Living The Dream is brilliant emoticon
