Re: Versions of the band seen and wish had seen?
Have seen them four times.
Oslo, 1993
Oslo, 2003
Oslo, 2009
Aalborg, 2013
I wish I'd seen them in 1999, but I hope to see them again in 2019 and 2023.
Sometimes numbers are a bit coincidental... 1999 was the concerto-remake in RAH, would have been great!
and of course I want to see them again next year, and in five years as well!

Yeah, I wish I had seen Stuttgart. Hamburg was weak.

Re: Versions of the band seen and wish had seen?
I've seen the band a mere 8 times. I saw Mark II when they reformed at Knebworth and then in Edinburgh on the HOBL tour. Following Gillan's removal and replacement with JLT, I thought the band lost all credibility and I lost interest for many years.
I rediscovered Purple around 2001 when I picked up a soundboard of a gig in Hong Kong at a record fair. I bought it because I couldn't believe the setlist- they were doing songs that Ritchie would never have dreamt of playing live and curiosity got the better of me. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the band sounded and at just how good Gillan sounded (at that time). Since then, I have seen Mk 8 five times.
I would have loved to have seen Mark II in the 70's- any year between 1970-1973 would have done me. I'd also love to have seen Mark III at their first UK gig at the Caird Hall in Dundee as that's my local venue- sadly I wasn't old enough to go to my first concert there until 1980 and the thought that Purple actually played there in their prime still amazes me.
As for Mark IV- I'd just love to have had the opportunity to see Tommy play live. Knowing what we know now, I'd love to be able to go back and see for myself whether all the myths we were led to believe for years were true. Was he really THAT fucked up- or was he always on a hiding to nothing simply because he wasn't Ritchie? Probably a combination of both I suspect.
And finally, I'd love to have seen the 1993 tour -simply because Ritchie was playing like a man possessed. If only he'd played that well when the band first reformed, they might just have reached the heights they had in the early 70's.

Re: Versions of the band seen and wish had seen?
I would have liked to have seen MKIIa. They came to Toledo in 1971 when I was thirteen on the Fireball tour. Fireball was my first and is my favorite DP album. I never cared much for MKIII or IV, but I really would have liked to have seen the Big Three in their prime. I would like to see them one more time before they are through, since I didn't get the chance to catch them in the States in August or September. The way that this tour is going, they will be pushing them out in wheelchairs before it is over.
