Bent Out of Shape

I haven't listened to this album in at least 25 years. For some reason I decided to listen to it during my work out this morning. What a surprise! It's much better than I remember. The 2 instrumentals, especially "Snowman" are brilliant. To my ears, not a bad song on the entire album. Many people might not agree, but I think it's better than S&M.

BOOS is definitely my favorite album from the JLT-fronted Rainbow. The songs are very strong overall, but are somewhat hampered by the slick production, though I'm sure it sounded just like Ritchie wanted.

DIFFICULT TO CURE is very spotty and lacks cohesiveness, not to mention it includes the horrendous track "Magic". And STRAIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES has a pretty poor second side, excluding "Eyes of Fire". In contrast, BOOS has something of interest in every track and just feels more consistent and focused than the previous two releses.

I can't agree about it being better than SLAVES AND MASTERS, though. Songs like "King of Dreams", "The Cut Runs Deep", "Fire in the Basement", "Breakfast in Bed", "Fortuneteller", and "Wicked Ways" rise above anything on BOOS to my ears.

The only JLT/Rainbow album I can stand listen to. It is as you say quite good.
S&M is better though.

I'm a bit surprised. For me, DTC ist the best Rainbow/JLT album. With quite strong songs like Spotlight Kid, I Surrender, Can't Happen Here and Midtown Tunnel Vision. And it has Bobby Rondinelli on drums who for me is by far the better drummer than Chuck Bürgi.

I just don't like this album. The sound is muddy, the songs are average (except for the instrumentals which are very good). Too many AOR tunes, I didn't like it then, I've tried many times since, and still find it very weak.

My fav JLT era album is Straight Between the Eyes, an album considered by many as their weakest.

Same for me. I like all the JLT albums but Difficult to cure is special, it has Airey on keyboards and Ritchie's solos are very high in the mix (thanks to Rog).

The low point of the Rainbow output, not a single track that I like.

Bent is my one of my favourite LPs full stop, and certainly of the JLT era.

I find the opener and closing tracks a little ordinary but the other 7 are gold plated for me, leaving just the filler DWTW - and that's not bad at all either, a cut above other similar fillers! emoticon

Not a track that I would search out to listen to. I had totally lost Rainbow by this point, didn't go to see them on the tour (1983?).
