Re: The Studio Albums (1984-2017) Ranked
Totally disagree Randys/Concrete God. I played Purpendicular in entirety recently and it's Bells whisky - apart from SIFLS which competes with any 70s classic.
Bananas has more varied tracks and has passed the test of time IMHO but unfortunately will fade and die.
Nobody (casual fan) will be playing Now What, ROTD, Abandon, Infinte etc 10 years from now.
In fact, nobody will be playing Mk Morse 10 years from now. You shouldn't overlook that 4 of my top 5 feature TMIB....

Of course not. They will play Mk II songs. Which is nothing but consistent because they band play them too.

And do you know why Witchy Nightmare? - because they are just better songs/tracks with more soul...
Hey, WDWTWA is better than anything from 1984....

You have a point Lake, I respect your opinion.
But "one sign" that the album is good is that.......
1. It always gets reissued in vinyl or CD, because people will be interested.
2. It gets an anniversary, deluxe or special releases with bonus tracks and better packaging.
3. Record labels will always be interested in it's reissues, even small labels. I have a DP vinyl albums pressed by "Friday Music" and "Music On Vinyl".
There are reissues of "Shades of Deep Purple" on purple colored vinyl, there is also "Book of Taliesyn" on white colored vinyl. Multiple record labels have reissued many DP albums.
The questions are......
Why is there no interest from record labels to release "Abandon" on vinyl for the last 20-years?
Why is "Bananas" not being re-release on vinyl format? Is there not enough demands for these albums?
After the release of "Bananas" they were dropped by their record label, but why?
Even one of the most hated album here "Slaves and Masters" was reissued on vinyl and CDs, but not "Bananas" and "Abandon". Why?
I love "S&M" by the way, as of now I have 2-vinyl and 3-CDs. 🙂

Yes, that's true, but not every fan is lucky as you are doggone. I think it never had a re-issue or re-release on vinyl and CD.

Lets use "single malt scotch whisky" as a comparison.
In 1996, you drink a glass of "Purpendicular Whisky" straight from the distillery without aging it in oak barrel and it taste good.
In 2003, you drink a glass of "Bananas Whisky" straight from the distillery without aging it in oak barrel and it taste good.
In 2008, you drink a glass of "Purpendicular 12 Years Old" and it taste great.
In 2015, you drink a glass of "Bananas 12 Years Old" and it taste not that good anymore.
In short, just like wine, "Purpendicular" taste better with age. In contrast "Bananas" does not age well. Thats my opinion.
I think that you should have gone by regions, with Islay being the most polarizing and the Highlands and its sub-regions offering something for everybody's taste and the other regions get the rest. I would say TBRO, S&M and maybe Abandon are in the Islay category while PS and maybe a couple of others like Now What would be Highland. Others you could mix up in the Lowlands and Campbeltown. Some might even be an excellent blend, like Johnnie Walker Green Label. Perpendicular, maybe. There is something for everybody's taste here.

I like S&M too, very much. Blackmore was really dominating here, in quite a good way.
But no team will thrive on a "one man show" situation in the end.

I actually disagree with this, a lot. WDWTWA was not that great. I almost never listen to it. Actually, I listen to the Morse era albums far more than any other Purple these days. Maybe its just that I have been listening to some of the old stuff for over 45 years, but Purpendicular, Bananas and Now What are far more likely to get played that any older stuff except maybe MIJ. The stuff is just fresher sounding.
Just one man's opinion.

Re: The Studio Albums (1984-2017) Ranked
Well, RickW, I'm afraid that I'm going to have respectfully disagree.
Do me a favour and spin WDWTWA again (including bonus tracks if you have it) and it just has that fresh, non-overproduced, real instrumentation sound relative to anything from 1984. Hey, it's clearly the weakest MkII album but look at its competition!
I love Bananas because of the aforementioned variation and it has such a fresh Airey feel/impact. Now What was history almost after I'd reviewed it and Purpendicular is now irrelevant IMHO.
