Kilburn 1974 Live in London - original bootleg available?

I used to have this show on cassette tape, back in 1977. It was the original ‘bootleg’ release. And frankly, it was the best release of what was the best MkIII live recording. The reason? It still contained the ‘hall’ sound, the ambience, the natural reverb of the Gaumont theater.

All the ‘official’ releases knocked that ambience out. To their detriment IMO. YFNO in particular benefits from it; the amazing guitar solo (edit: and Jon’s stunning intro) sounds even more stunning in that context. I’ve tried adding ambiance to the available recordings, but never managed to get what was on that version.

SOOOO.... is anyone aware of any available copies of that original bootleg?

As there are different bootlegs of that show existing, which is the one you mean with "original release"?

Afair the show was available on a record named BBC Transcription Services. These records weren't bootlegs in a strict sense, but they weren't produced to be sold publicly. On record fairs in Germany in the early 1990's you could get these records. Perhaps the BBC transcription record of the Gaumont show has the original sound you described.

Maybe he means this boot:

I also got a tape around 1978 from the complete show.

The "original" vinyl release squashed the sound to fit 57 minutes of "hard rockin' music" onto a LP. The first CD release didn't "rectify" the sound. The 2007 re-release restored a bunch of edits and was re-mastered which improved things a lot.

don't know if this helps.

The tape I had back in 1978 (I said 1977 earlier, but on thinking about it I got it in 78) had Burn, Might Just Take Your Life, Lay Down Stay Down, YFNO, and did not include SOTW or Space Truckin’. Which thank goodness, because as much as I dig MkIII they weren’t good at Gillan-era stuff from a vox perspective.
