Re: Morse again is open for Blackmore reunion as well as others
I hear you all, and perhaps it's possible to find a suitable guitarist. But I don't think there's that many to chose from either. The problem is not finding anyone who wants to. Hey, I would love to play with Deep Purple. I wouldn't be great, but I would enjoy the ride for sure. So who wouldn't??
But the standards required are rather high. I refuse to believe that Ian Gillan or any band member would accept any decent stringman able to keep the show going as long as they quit the difficult parts. I don't see that happen. The guitarist in Deep Purple has to be someone totally outstanding, a remarkable talent who can do things nobody else can.
Also Deep Purple are somehow struggling not being labeled their own cover band. They chose Steve Morse back then, among other reasons, because he was so very different from Blackmore and brought something new and different. Would they choose today a guitarist who at best is a Blackmore-copy? Hardly.
Ian Gillan has often compared a band to a family. And he has made clear that Steve Morse saved the band when he joined, he brought their smiles back and is a major reason they all kept going for these many years. So, because Ian Gillan has the final word on this, I don't see him make a move that pays disrespect to Steve Morse and his contributions to Deep Purple.
But I don't claim to know anything for sure. I only say what I think.

Yeah, Gillan talks a lot when the day is long. In his "family" there's various guitar and keyboard players, but just one vocalist. He never honestly considered Coverdale, Hughes oder Turner being a part of the "family". The only ones outside "his" DP to whom he really paid respect are the Mk I guys, Rod and Nick.

When Ritchie left, they were happy to get Morse and continue with the other solist, Jon Lord. When Lord left, they had no problem to replace him by Don Airey. Moreover, when Steve leaves now, they don't need a guitarist being as special as Steve is. In 1994 they needed someone to deliver a strong contribution to the creative process, as their main songwriter had left the band. Now they just need someone - frankly speking - who knows how the riff to SOTW must be played.
Yes, Steve saved the band in 1994. But this is 24 years ago, and that doesn't necessarily mean that they won't carry on with another guitarist. I guess Steve wouldn't consider it as a sign of disrespect towards him if they do. There were other guitar players in the band before him, and if there's someone after him, where's the problem? Dixie Dregs would be another topic, this band never would play without Steve.
But who knows ... perhaps your view will prove being closer to the truth than mine.

Sorry, I think that you dont get IG´s attitude to that. As I understand that, IG means that he considers a band as family purely because they spend a lot of time of year together, they are touring together, they go through difficulties and victories together as their life goes on. Therefore it´s logic that IG doesnt talk about David or Glenn or Joe as "family members" because they have never been part of his "Deep Purple family" - IG left, DC/GH arrived, IG was fired, JLT arrived.... they are not his "co-workers" they are / were his rivals, never a partners or colleagues. I would describe it that for him they are like former husbands of his present wife which he got together for 3rd time. Do you wanna party with them? Probably not. I mean - they probably have a ambigous respect for each other, but that´s not enough to be "friends", "brothers", members of family. They actually have nothing natural common - they didnt spend tours together, recording together - nearly nothing. When the real and natural "friendship" should have been born? And why to pretend that it happened?

He's usually quite busy, actually. With Shadowman, for example, with Steve Overland on voice. And other melodicrock/aor projects.

If that's the case, all they have to do is send me a pm
Of course I think that I'm right and you're wrong... but honestly I hope it's the other way around.
I don't hope for Deep Purple to quit. It would indeed be interesting to hear yet another guitarist give his best with this great band, if Steve Morse has to quit.

Re: Morse again is open for Blackmore reunion as well as others
I can see them continuing with a guy like Simon McBride. Listen to his interpretation of Pictures of Home on Don Airey's One of a Kind, it's very good. And he's bluesier, which means they could explore the blusier side of the band.

Re: Morse again is open for Blackmore reunion as well as others
If SM does leave I have no doubt whatsoever that DP would continue. IG has twice seen life without DP and both times realised that as a solo artist his earning capacity is very low. With a brand called DP promoters will still book them, as the IGB they won't.
The new guitarist wouldn't be required to bring in any new ideas etc. all they would be required to do would be play the same setlist from the last 12 years.
