I imagine that Steve is really struggling with his hand/wrist problems. It is also very revealing that the person who in theory people would expect to be threatened by sharing a stage with RB is not worried at all.

Paice has recently changed his mind and said he would play with Ritchie...seems Gillan is the only hold-out now.

emoticon emoticon Steve threatened by current Ritchie? One of the best jokes I have read in long time.

It´s NOT about Steve being threatened and never was. As I said numerous times - it´s only and mainly about the fact that they should do what they WANT to do and are willing to do with pleasure. This persistent outer pressure to "play with Ritchie" - they ignored it in the past and they should ignore it today. They should play with him as guest only when they feel and really WANT to do that - for their own pleasure. They owe fans absolutely nothing. Musically after seeing Ritchie this year, it will have no sense at all (Ritchie has absolutely nothing to offer them now), it´ll be purely about nostalgic feeling - which IMO is one of the worst reasons why to do that…

Edit: I have to point out that Steve actually never had an issue with this thing - I always explained it by the fact that he never had a negative experience with RB as the other guys in band have.

Re:

I read the interview in a slightly different way...to me, it sounded like Steve was trying to find a way out of DP after the tour without being rude...THEY will keep probably going on in SOME WAY, but I will give retirement a try...the kind of thing where you take six months off on retirement grounds, and then you're suddenly in a Dixie Dregs reunion tour or something like that...and no-one is offended. That's how I interpreted it.

I wonder what would happen if Morse was to quit (retire) from dP.

They all insisted that it was the last world tour, but never said they were done touring all around.

Anyway, if Steve wants to slow down/ retire/ quit, I doubt there will ever be a follow-up to inFinite.

Time to get Satch on board again?

Satch did not join DP long-term because his manager was convinced he would have made much more money with his solo career---now if he wants to fill halls half the size of DP's ones he needs to join forces with another two guitarists in the G3 format. Talking about vision.

Steve said, that others from Purple will stay active - but please note he didnt say "in or with Purple". I still think that what Paicey said in Infinite documentary was perfect statement which had meaning that because Steve obviously cant be DP "founding" guitar player, he deserves to be the final guitar player of the band after all those years. And IP added something like "I think it´ll be that way". So this is the answer IMO - I´m almost sure that anyone leaving from this Mark 8 lineup means the final end of Deep Purple. It makes no sense to continue (and actually having a "new start" for a band which would have to proof again its own value) at THIS phase of their career.

Not so sure about that. Steve seems to want to stop with dP, while the other ones seem to wanna reduce the intensity.

If Paice, Airey, Gillan & Glover are willing to continue, I bet Morse will be replaced in the wink of an eye. I'm not especially hoping it happens, but I can see it. If only because if they don't stick together, they'll be touring clubs/ small venues on their own, and I don't see them liking that at their age while they could get a guy like Satch (or someone of that calibre) and continue doing "greatest hits" shows in comfortable big venues.

Weither it's a good idea or not, is another discussion.

As long as Gillan wants to continue, they'll continue. Airey, Glover and Paice will follow him without any resistance, no matter who's the guitar player.
