Re: 50th Anniversary - how about guest spots for Simper and Blackmore??

How many times this (frankly speaking totally useless) topic will appear????
As long as there are fans who are interested in it. That you don't want it (staying loyal to your idol as always) doesn't mean that others don't want it as well.
I guess it would be good to involve as many past members as possible. Simper, Coverdale, Hughes, Turner, Satriani. That would take the focus away from Blackmore a bit and perhaps would make it more tolerable for the dedicated Blackmore haters.

Lets do a poll and see how many fans would like to see ex member(s) guest at upcoming shows given this is band's 50th Anniversary Can someone please set it up? Would like to take the results and email to Bruce.

Re: 50th Anniversary - how about guest spots for Simper and Blackmore??
I supposed that after all those years people know that outer pressure pushing them to do something is actually negative thing - they will do it when they will feel and WANT to do it themselves. It´s their band, it´s their tour and they will do what they want to do. It´s just hillarious if anyone think that some website poll will change their mind and they will say "hey look, 80 people on this fan forum wants us to play with Ritchie again - we should consider that unless we will lost them". Dont you see how absurd it is? They played one-off gigs with guesting DP ex-members with whom they wished to play (with Jon and Satch) and they did that because they had friendship with them and liked to play with them. That´s necessary factor and that "liked to play with them" cannot be pushed from outer environment. It´s just silly, sorry…

What is REALLY silly, ptr, is that you seem to believe that DP (or anybody else, for that matter) only do what they want and not what they perceive to be the expectations of their fan base. Now, they could think it's not worth the hassle, and I could understand this approach - but don't come here telling the story that they only play for the love of music. IG retired in 1974, that was what he WANTED to do when he thought he had enough financial stability - once he lost it all, he got the gift of the love for music magically back - and it's just one example, I'm not picking on him.

Ptr, once it happens, this will stop.....remember when DP was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a lot of fans were furious, but once they were inducted it became almost quiet in that topic.
Ptr, just "one" show with Ritchie and your problems will................go away.

In DP´s case right now I´m 100% sure they are doing it mainly because they cant live other way (they cant live without doing a music) - playing is their live, stage is their 2nd home. Don cant be without being on stage - he plays with Purple and solo band, Steve reunited with Dregs, Paicey performs on stage with various bands just to keep on playing… When DP has a break at the start of next year, IG is performing with RMC. They could have retire decade ago with 40 years anniversary and they didnt, they could have retire many times and they didnt - why, because they cant be without doing music. It´s simply one of meanings of their life (aside of family life of course). IG retired from music business because he was "worn" - not only physically, but mainly on psychological side. Now? Touring is demanding of course, but it brings them happiness.

Their setlists make me doubt this. I cannot imagine that their recent songs are so low in their priorities. A few years ago, Roger Glover was asked in an interview why they don't do songs from the HOBL album, and he answered that this question would have to be asked to the management. So much for "they will do what they want to do".
Sadly the management doesn't seem interested in a farewell show with their ex-members.

Re: 50th Anniversary - how about guest spots for Simper and Blackmore??
I accept that there are many fans who would like this to happen, and for reasons of closure then maybe it would be "nice".
However I can't believe that it would be what people are hoping for. Everyone wants the classic MK II line up playing how they did in the 70's, but we know how RB sounds these days, we know how IG sounds these days, and there is no JL. I fear it would be a disappointment.
If you like the records and shows the current band make, play these. If you like the 70's stuff, play those. What is a fact is the 70's performances are long gone, and never coming back.
