Rainbow always had good airplay, cracking the Top 40 or not. Saw them a number of times and the concerts were always well attended. Snake was quite big. Considering some of the acts that are in the hall, I'm not sure if being loathed by critics matters too much.

Can't disagree with anything you said. But there is no way either band is going into the HOF. Not in our lifetimes. And if the HOF truly meant something, I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Cmon guys!!!!!!!!!!

Rainbow and Ritchie are lightening years ahead of WS, DD and IG solo in terms of influence. The R'n'R HOF is not just about sales but influence. WS were not influential by any stretch of the imagination!!! Rainbow launched the career of RJD and the band started a hard rock/heavy metal genre of Power Metal!!! Many bands cite Rainbow as an influence from Metallica to Exodus to Hammerfall.

IMO only RB.RJD.CP deserve to be inducted for Rainbow..if they extend the list a little add JLT and RG for their influence to help the band sell a little more.

What is this bullshit about Whitesnake going before Rainbow!!! Gimmie a break!!! The only thing they did was jump on a band wagon during the hair metal days...prior to that they sounded like some cheap version of an english southern rock band...yes I like some of the albums Ready N Willing was probably the best of them up until DC injected some balls into the sound (thankfully) with SII and then the 1987 album. Most of that 1977-1983 was hit and miss for me. JL and IP sound like glorified session players and the records sounded flat...If anything the first real hair band that should go in is Motley Crue and then maybe Bon Jovi...but I don't see Bon Jovi being more influential than MC.

Sorry, but Rainbow was just a pale imitation of Deep Purple, where a certain guitarist was sure to have more influence.

Nonsense !!! Absolutely ridiculous statement mate.Rainbow were nothing like Deep Purple ,apart of course from both bands being hugely talented.Rainbow found Blackmore at the absolute peak of his powers where his style had moved on to invent the neo classical genre.Dio was a match for ANY rock vocalist we have ever known, and Cozy was a phenomenal drummer.DP and Rainbow were of course both hard rock bands but Rainbow had a completely different sound and attitude and could never be mistaken for DP?? .Dio era Rainbow were never a pale shadow of anybody, they were quite simply a stunning band, one of the finest Rock bands of all time IMHO.

Stargazer
Gates Of Babylon
Kill The King

Rainbow were the foundation for Power Metal, not something you could say about Purple.
