Gillan/Blackmore feud
Hi guys,
This is my first post here. I have read a few posts here that Gillan has told lies about Blackmore's time in the band since Ritchie left. Can anyone elaborate?

Re: Gillan/Blackmore feud
LOL I haven't really followed Purple since Blackmore left...I know the history but was curious if Gillan was spewing outright lies since Morse joined or was just bashing him...

Re: Gillan/Blackmore feud
It all began a long time ago in far away kingdom.....Purplelandia.
Two men wanted to be a king......
At first King Ritchie won and became King, his nemesis Gillan left.
But the kingdom fall after a few years and later rise again and King Ritchie was back in the throne, but Gillan is determined to challenged the King and was banished in a faraway land.
Years later he returned and dethroned King Ritchie, since then King Gillan ruled Purlandia and the former king left the kingdom and never returned.

Re: Gillan/Blackmore feud
King Gillan issued a decree that the former king should never step foot in the kingdom of Purplelandia.

Re: Gillan/Blackmore feud
Here's the thing; as Ritchie says on his dvd, you've got two alpha males (Ritchie and Ian) who often bumped heads over which way things should go. The majority deferred to Ritchie because let's face it, he was usually right. He also wrote the majority of the riffs.
One day, Gillan squirted ketchup on Ritchie's pasta and Ritchie's slammed it in Gillan's face. Ritchie being the riffmaster he is was delivering the goods, but despite writing vacations with Mr. Glover to come up with songs, Gillan brought nothing. Gillan was canned.
In comes Joe Lynn Turner. Ritchie wanted him, Roger was meh and Jon and Paicey no likey. They released an album (the oft maligned Slaves & Masters) and fans called it either Purple Rainbow or Deep Rainbow. They toured with some success (except in the US where everyone was mad that Gillan was gone). Joe quit (or was fired depending on who you ask).
Everyone (label, bandmates) wanted Gillan back in the band. The label went to Ritchie and said "What's it going to take?" Ritchie threw a number out there never thinking for a second they were going to take it but ALAS! they did!! The tour was to kick off in the good ole USofA. That never happened. They toured Europe and were supposed to tour Japan but Ritchie was sick and tired of Gillan's unprofessionalism and gave them notice that he was leaving.
Its been from that point forward that Gillan became leader and started re-writing history.

Re: Gillan/Blackmore feud
I believe the Pasta Incident happened during the last part of the HOBL tour. Things between these 2 started falling apart during the recording of the album "Fireball". Jon Lord has stated that no one knows exactly what caused their falling out. Constant touring didn't help. Roger Glover has stated that Gillan was drunk for much of the Fireball sessions. This probably didn't help matters. On the DVD, Ritchie states that, on the way back from Japan in 1972, he told Gillan that he didn't have the "blues voice" which Blackmore apparently wanted at that time. Maybe six months off at that time(which would have let the band get some much needed rest and allow Ritchie to record a blues album would have helped).
