Agreed- Murray was fabulous on the early Snake albums- almost jazzy in places! I am not sure it would matter who was playing the bass on The Purple Album as the bass is so buried in the mix that it's hard to pick out anything Devin is playing.
PS- seeing as DC decided not to cover this song on The Purple Album, I knocked up a quick version of You Can't Do It Right from Stormbringer in my bedroom on an £150 portable 8 track. And yes, the drums are programmed- but everything else is me......

That's pretty cool.

Re: The Purple Album - first review
Thanks guys- that was a bit off topic, sorry! I just wanted to prove that it's possible to cover Purple material without keyboards without it sounding metal...
Anyway, I quite like this latest review of the album- it's pretty honest- i.e. a mixture of realism and also praise where its due. I'm particularly interested in hearing Love Child sounding like its sung by Barry Gibb!

Re: The Purple Album - first review
Teamrock (classic rock) give it 2 out of 10. They say it's a stinker. They don't really mention his vocals, just that it's all wrong.

Re: The Purple Album - first review
I read the interview.
It seems as if it's written by someone who doesn't like DC.
No real comments, just dishing the members of the band.
I liked Stormbringer to a point, wasn't too keen on Burn and didn't like Lady Double Dealer. But this review has nothing to do with the music.

Re: The Purple Album - first review
Doesn't tell u much about what's so apparently bad about the album does it? Although Mistreated being given the heavy metal treatment is worrying. I wonder if that's the review that they will put in the magazine- if it is then that'll be the end of friendly relations between DC and Classic Rock. If the album really is that bad then it could turn out to be the worst career decision DC has ever made
