Not too impressed
Imho the weakest of the 3 tracks so far.
Stormbringer is the best so far.
Still not sure if I'll buy the album.
I have a rule for this: If you are not sure about going to a gig, go. If you are not sure about buying an album, do not buy it.
That's the same way I think about it.

Re: Another track this week...
Mmm... No. Not too impressed with this one.
Vocals are ok, but the whole thing sounds a bit empty to me. Like there is something missing. Can't feel the passion somehow...
It makes me a little nervous about the slower tracks like Soldier of Fortune or Holy Man.
Very very curious about those now.
If the emotion in those is not as it should be, the album will be ruined for me...

doesn't work for me, vocals ok to be fair but the way they've done the riff w double tracking weakens it somehow. going off the concept of the Purple album quickly now........

Re: Another track this week...
Very poor.
Adds nothing to the song in any way. Had to go and listen to the original to cleanse my ears!

Better. Guitar playing definitely not as metal. Chorus sounds good. 1st verse a bit shaky from DC IMHO.
I agree. I have to say, from what little I've heard, some of these vocals sound like guide vocals. I'm trying to work out why and it comes down to this:
David's voice has now changed so much that his studio work sounds broadly the same as his current live voice. Almost frail at times. This has to be an endgame situation for this singer and this type of material.
I think the striking comparison is if you take the very 1st line of the very first song on Forevermore ('I'm going back to the place'...)- you can here there is still a fair bit of power in the ol' voice at that stage. For me, it's not like he's singing off key or anything on the new tracks we've heard- but the lack of power is very evident. His voice just kind of sounds- tired. Which is strange because it sounds quite powerful in the 2 lines of LDD you get to hear in the press-kit.
Having said that, I listened to Burn again this morning and, after several listens, I have got used to how DC sings it rather than expecting it to sound like the original, or even comparing it to the original. Therefore, I've been able to accept it for what it is and I kind of enjoyed it for the first time. Perhaps getting accustomed to these new arrangements and getting used to how DC's voice sounds will make these versions more enjoyable over time.
I'm really itching to hear some of the songs which will hopefully be sung in DC's lower register- the likes of Holy Man, Soldier of Fortune, Sail Away and to a lesser degree- YKOM and Mistreated.

The riff sounds to me as if they'd added the harmony as a guide to further tracks. That, plus lack of bass and drum effects makes this, like Burn, sound like a demo. SB, in comparison, sounds completed. And indefinitely better.

This sums it up for me. Confused at the moment and want to hear the whole album to form a proper view.
