The Moodiest Deep Purple Song

I mean the one which gets you sad, or melancholic. There are not many I think, since Deep Purple's music is much filled with positive energy.

I'd say "Son of Alerik"

When a Blind Man Cries.

But only the original version. All the other versions are overplayed and/or oversung.

Rezi, would you have picked up this one if it would be an instrumental? The lyrics, I'm sure, are for a big part in your choice.

That's a good question. I'd say probably, because it's a minor blues. Usually blues isn't in minor, and slow blues songs aren't sad at all! WABMC has that sad feel to it, even though it is not too easy to imagine the melody played as instrumental.

Contact Lost, for a couple of reasons.

First, simply due to it's origin.

Second, for the couple of minutes of my life I lose each time I have to see it in concert (though, it at least is usually tied to the uplifting Well Dressed Guitar, so that's a plus).
